| FTP is the standard method, or protocol, used for sending data
across the Internet. This standardization ensures that data transferred via FTP is transferred in the same manner every time FTP is used, any time, anywhere in the world.
FTP software provides a graphical interface for interactions between
your computer and our web servers. By using this software, you'll see our computer's directory structure, in the same manner that Windows Explorer lets you see the directory structure of your own computer.
This allows you to transfer files from your computer to the server (uploading) and from the server to your computer (downloading). In addition, you can also move directories and files around, rename, and delete them.
FTP software also allows you to transfer files from one operating system to another. For instance from a Windows machine to a Macintosh.
There are many FTP programs on the market today.
Below are the ones that we recommend, where to download them and how they should be configured to work on our system.
Windows Systems
WS-FTP
Cute-FTP
Macintosh Systems
Fetch
NOTE: We highly recommend using a true FTP program for your file transfers. Although most web editors and browsers provide a "Publishing" feature, we feel that the FTP programs above provide more security and better control. We do not offer any technical support or assistance for any but the above programs.
